Chester River

Flowing from Delaware to the Chesapeake Bay, the Chester River stretches 390 square miles. The Chester enabled small, waterfront towns to become prominent shipping towns in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, the Chester River serves as a place of recreation for Kent County residents and homeowners.

A boater's delight, the Chester River boasts several marinas and docks on coastal Kent County towns. Many homes in Kent County may also include waterfront property, with private docks. Residents can also choose to kayak along the river, finding cozy spots in hidden alcoves along the banks of the Chester River.

This majestic estuary of the Chesapeake Bay provides a home to several waterfowl creatures including ducks, geese, heron, osprey, bald eagles and more! The Chester River also serves as a home to several underwater species, including alewife, shad, blue fish, oysters and the blue crab. Striped bass, known locally as "rockfish," is perhaps the most prized fish found in the Chester River.

The Chester River serves as a home to several waterfowl and underwater creatures, and also provides a great source of recreation and relaxation for the inhabitants of the Kent County region.
